By 5 January 2016

Car buying in Croatia on the rise.

During 2015, 35,715 cars were sold in Croatia, which is 5.1 percent more than in 2014. In December last year, 2,108 vehicles were sold, which is 21.6 percent more than the year before, according to data released on Tuesday by Promocija Plus agency, reports Poslovni.hr on January 5, 2016.

Last year, the largest number of cars was sold by Volkswagen, with 5,792 vehicles. The second place on the list of the best-selling producers went to Opel, with 3,668 vehicles sold. The third on the list is Skoda, also a member of the VW Group, which managed to sell as many as 3,072 vehicles.

As far as more luxurious brands are concerned, last year Croatian citizens bought 1,355 cars from Audi, 987 from BMW, and 896 from Mercedes. Croatian garages now also include 41 new Porsches, eight Jaguars, five Teslas and four Maseratis.

The best-selling model during the last year was VW Golf, which sold 1,939 units, followed by Opel Astra with 1,548 cars sold. The third place belonged to Renault Clio, with 1,528 vehicles sold. The fourth best-selling model was Skoda Octavia (1,399), and the fifth was VW Polo (1,374).

In December last year, the first place also belonged to vehicles produced by Volkswagen (406), which means that Croatian citizens were not bothered too much by the international scandal when it was found out that the company had cheated on vehicles tests. The second place on the list of the best selling cars in December went to Hyundai, with 158 vehicles sold, followed by Renault (152).

As far as individual models are concerned, in December Croatian buyers purchased 147 new VW Polos, 121 VW Passats and 100 VW Golfs, which means that Volkswagen took all three places on the list of best selling models in the last month of 2015.
