Belvedere Drama: City of Dubrovnik Refuses to Sell Land, Davor Štern to Seek Concession

By 24 August 2017

Just when you thought the iconic Hotel Belvedere was history...

As DuList reports on the 24th of August, 2017, the City of Dubrovnik has refused to sell part of the land to Larus d.o.o, owned by the Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg.

As far as is known, while the City of Dubrovnik gave full support to the further development of this significant project which would see one of Dubrovnik's most prominent former hotels (Hotel Belvedere) which now lies in ruin, transformed into an incredible, high scale establishment, it seems that a spanner has been thrown into the works. Not an unlikely story. On this occasion, it relates to problems surrounding part of the road which leads to the Belvedere Hotel, which is under the ownership of the city.

''As a significant investment in the overall hotel offer of Dubrovnik, the City of Dubrovnik supports the construction of a new hotel, according to the presented project. However, we also believe that this project can and must be realised without being at the expense of the City of Dubrovnik or the interest of its residents. Therefore, we have clearly and unambiguously communicated with investors that the City has no obstacle to the project, but the public road must remain under the city's ownership. The registration process has begun'' stated the City of Dubrovnik.
