By 19 April 2018

ZAGREB, April 19, 2018 - The signing of agreements for development projects in the port of Rijeka on Thursday marked the beginning of a new investment cycle in the port area. The total value of the projects is 37.6 million euro.

The port operator Lučka Uprava Rijeka and the HŽ Infrastruktura railway company signed a 35.5 million euro agreement with a consortium of Kolektor-Koling and Euro-Asfalt Partneri for the development of a multimodal platform and connection with the Adriatic Gate container terminal.

The project relates to the Sušak Brajdica railway line, the shortest transport corridor for the transport of goods from overseas ports into the EU. The work is to start in June 2018 and finish in June 2020. It will include reconstruction of the existing tracks and expansion of the Sušak tunnel.

Lučka Uprava Rijeka and a consortium led by the Sarda company signed a 310,000 euro agreement to improve IT infrastructure in the port. The project is worth 1.6 million euro in all.

HŽ Infrastruktura and the Town of Rijeka signed an agreement for the reconstruction of Rijeka's central train station and the construction of a new siding.

Eighty-five percent of the funding for the projects has been secured from the EU's Connecting Europe Facility and the rest comes from national sources.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković, who said that the port of Rijeka was turning a new page in a bid to position itself as an intermodal transport hub in the northern Adriatic. He said that about 2.5 billion kuna of investment was expected to be generated over the next three years.
