Their average wage has been increased by 9.54 percent, which is among the most significant increases in the Croatian retail sector, the company said. SPAR has 106 stores in 12 towns across the country and plans to open more jobs.

"By increasing wages and investing in human resources development, we want to be recognised as a desirable place for work and professional advancement. We offer our employees a number of other benefits, such as further education, training and continuous opportunities for advancement," Helmut Fenzl, CEO of Spar Croatia, said in the statement.

SPAR has invested 500 million euro and paid 2 billion kuna (270 million euro) in wages since it started operating in Croatia in 2005. It is among the most significant retail chains in Croatia and the second strongest retailer in Zagreb, the statement said.
