ZAGREB, 3 July 2022 - The number of industrial workers in Croatia in May 2022 fell by 0.1% from the previous month and by 0.9% from May 2021, according to the national statistical office (DZS).

Month on month, the number of workers in mining and quarrying decreased by 0.6%, while the number of workers in the manufacturing industry and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply industry remained unchanged.

In the manufacturing industry, the number of workers increased the most in textile manufacturing (+3.3%) and the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+2.8%). At the same time, the largest decrease in the number of workers was recorded in the manufacture of tobacco products (-15.8%).

Year on year, the number of workers dropped in mining and quarrying by 1.8% and the manufacturing industry by 1.1%, while increasing in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply industry by 2.2%.

In the manufacturing industry, the largest annual decreases in the number of workers were observed in the manufacture of other means of transport (-14.2%) and the manufacture of tobacco products (-10.4%). The largest increases were recorded in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+21.9%), the printing and reproduction of recorded media (+8.7%) and textile manufacturing (+5.2%).

In the year to May 2022, the number of industrial workers declined by 0.9% compared with the same period in 2021, while work productivity increased by 3.5%.

In May 2022 compared with May 2021, industrial production increased by 3.0% after declining for two months, indicating continued growth. Compared with April 2022, industrial production rose by 0.3%.
