WTA Bol Open Started With a Blast

Iva Majoli and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario played an exhibition match at the opening of the WTA 125 K Bol Open Tournament.

Five Grand Slam titles between them, and they played at the opening in the smallest town hosting WTA Tour, for the excited crowd in Bol on May 29. 2016. The warm up was a lot of fun, as was the match, with both players entertaining the crowd with great shots, as well as a lot of joking around and some shots that would never be tried at the professional level.

Although both players are retired, as the match was reaching its conclusion, shots were getting more serious, and we witnessed what ended up as a very entertaining game. Goran Prpić, ex Croatian tennis player and both Croatian Fed, and Davis Cup Team Coach was the chair umpire, providing more fun. He was invited to the court, but refused, as he felt he could help the Croatian player from the chair.

The match was scheduled as a one set winner, and the win was secured by Iva Majoli’s unreturnable serve which brought her the 6-4 win. In the second set, the famous players were joined by the Croatian Tennis Federation President, Mr. Franjo Luković and Gazprom CEO Mr. Alexander Medvedev for the doubles match.

The WTA Bol open continues tomorrow with the qualification matches for the main draw which is scheduled for Tuesday. The day is not over yet, as the players' party will be staged tonight at the MY Katina, the luxury yacht built in the Split Shipyard, with Ana Rucner performing on the cello.
