Croatians Tena Lukas and Ana Vrljić out of WTA Bol Open

Both Croatian players lost their first round matches of the WTA Bol Open; one seeded player has lost too.

No luck for Croatian players at the WTA 125K Series Bol Open Tournament. On May 31, 2016, Ana Vrljić has lost her match against the second-seeded Varvara Lepchenko 1-6, 5-7. The Croatian showed her strong backhand in the second set, but her opponent was simply too strong.

In the other match with Croatian participation, Tena Lukas put up a great battle against American Sachia Vickery, but as she started the match with too many mistakes, she was out of breath at the deciding moments of the second set, as she has lost too much strength coming back from behind.

She opened the first set nervously, and within minutes she was down two breaks of serve. After she has lost the first set, her coach gave her some good advice, and while she was sticking to the game plan, everything looked good for the Croatian youngster. Unfortunately, she lost her nerve in some deciding points, as she was trying to win the points with one shot.

The last game of what ended up as the almost two-hour long match was a spectacular one. The American player served for the win, and Tena put up a great battle. The game lasted for more than twenty minutes, with the home player saving more than few match points, but, unfortunately, she has missed even more break points.

We witnessed a great match there, and in the other matches, it is worth noting the surprise loss by the eighth-seeded Romanian Patricia Maria Tig, who was defeated by another American player, Jennifer Brady.

The other three Croatian players will hit the court tomorrow, and TCN will bring you the news from what is becoming a very entertaining tournament in a competitive sense.
