July 4th hosted the opening of southeastern tower in Diocletian’s palace, one of the four rectangular towers at the corners of the palace walls.
The towers have been closed for years, and are one of the most important remains of the palace. Thanks to conservationists, the outside was first renovated, with ground renovations following after. Although it took a lot of time and money, a space nearly 1700 years old surely deserved a makeover. There are still two upper floors and roof that will be restored through EU funds.
Reconstruction and electrical installations were performed by the company Munja-Trade, d.o.o. with many workers on the job. Light design was done by Michel Fabrizio Zucco and set up by Vesna Ivanović.
This newly opened space will also hold rotating exhibitions.
The opening night of the towers was enjoyed by visitors who were served Dalmatian specialties such as prosciutto, cheese and wine, as well as champagne from the first Dalmatian champagne winery Grabovac. They were even able to take photos with Roman soldiers!
