The first day of the event “Days of Diocletian” took place last night in Split and was enjoyed by all, ending with dinner in Diocletian’s basement.
Days of Diocletian was opened with a procession by Emperor Diocletian and Empress Prisca who entered the event on Roman carts. The role of Diocletian and Prisca were played by actor Robert Kurbaša and singer Severina. The procession took place on the riva waterfront, Marmontova, Golden Gate, and finally arrived at Peristil where the event was officially opened.

The crowd then enjoyed a program of entertainment by Roman soldiers, fire-eaters, acrobats, gladiators, and dancers.
After the opening ceremony, a traditional Roman dinner was held in the basement of Diocletian’s palace under the slogan “What did the old Split people eat?”. An imperial feast was enjoyed by a large crowd dressed in tunics and togas - and while all delighted in Roman delicacies, the sounds of Andro Krstulović Opera played in the background.
This year’s menu included food items such as roasted suckling pig with honey, hummus and salted sardines, fried chicken drumsticks in a red wine and honey sauce, stews, fig cakes, and Diocletian pancakes, amongst other things.
