By 7 September 2016

Croatian tennis player Mate Pavić and German Laura Siegmund are through to the finals of mixed couples at the US Open, defeating Taiwanese Yun-Jan Chan and Serbian Nenad Zimonjić with 7-6 (5), 7-5

Pavić and Siegmund won the first set which had an unusual development. They led 5-1 only to have Chan and Zimonjić with five straight games reach a 6-5 lead where they gained two connected set-balls. But Pavić and Siegmund managed to reach a tie-break where they quickly went up 4-1 and kept that lead to 6-3 when they had two set-balls and service. But, they used neither, but they did the third at the opponent’s service, as Jutarnji List reported on September 7, 2016.

After Pavić and Siegmund won their first game in the second set at their service, they took the lead in the second game with 0-30 when rain interrupted the duel.

After a short rain break Chan and Zimonjić took the lead with 3-1, but Pavić and Siegmund recovered their lost service to gain another break for the win at 6-5.

In the finals on Friday Pavić and Siegmund will play the better from the match between Americans Coco Vandewegh i Rajeev Ram and German Anna-Lene Groenefeld and Columbian Robert Farah.
