Split-Dalmatia County has recorded excellent tourist results this season. According to eVisitor, August alone had over five million overnight stays - increasing 7% from last year.
Split is the top-ranked, most popular tourist destination in the country, with an overall increase of 32% in tourism compared to August of last year - the first 8 months of this year saw an increase in overnight stays by 25%. Most overnight stays were by guests from Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Scandinavia, Dalmacija News reports.
Joško Stella, Director of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, said that, “Our tourist destinations gain attractiveness in the end of the summer months due to the various sports and cultural events, so it is not surprising that reservations and arrivals of guests are close to what they are in the finest summer months. Split-Dalmatia County in the late season offers an active holiday with a special focus on cycling throughout its territory, wine and gastronomy of the Dalmatian hinterland, cultural and active holidays on the Split Riviera, and wellness and relaxation on the Makarska Riviera and the islands. Before us are the days of traditional events, with gastronomy, local products and fruits in autumn, film festivals, but also a variety of entertainment and sporting events.”
The Ministry of Tourism has highlighted the new projects of construction such as Livka on Šolta and a new tourist resort on the island of Hvar, both of great importance for the development of tourism in Split-Dalmatia County.
In the the bay of Livka on Šolta, a tourist resort worth 180 million euros is expected, which would, among other things, have a fishing village with villas and bungalows, a 5-star hotel, a marina with 160 berths and beach facilities.
The project value for the tourist resort on the island of Hvar is estimated at 100 million euros - a luxury tourist resort being planned in the bay next to Stari Grad. As part of this resort, there will be a luxury hotel of the highest category and about 60 villas.
According to Stella, September is looking excellent, with continued visits throughout October. Central Dalmatia is also becoming an example of how we can extend the season in all parts of the country.
