Ukraine's Tatiana Kremen, the two-millionth passenger, has landed at Split airport.
The Director at Split airport, Lukša Novak, pointed out that this is a major event in the 50-year history of the airport.
"This is a big event for the airport and for Croatia, which is recognized as a tourist destination with a cultural heritage that is worth a look, with facilities that are consistent with trends in tourism. This is a good sign that in the coming years the traffic will grow. This matters because we are fighting for the extension of the tourist season - we had a 19% increase this September, with a 17% increase on the entire year,” Novak argues, adding that he was especially glad that Tatiana came into Split via Munich on Croatia Airlines.
One of the most important projects at the airport, the director said, is the expansion of the passenger terminal worth 450 million kuna. The beginning of this work is expected in late October. Split airport’s millionth passenger was welcomed back in 2006, which is slightly better than the European average.
"We are an airport with the highest percentage of low cost carriers, the most important being Easy Jet, with flights from Split to 20 destinations that fly through the beginning of November. When we have an offer that will compete with the much better known destinations, then we will have a number of flights in the winter,” says Lukša Novak, adding that for the 2018 season, they are planning to make further modifications to meet the needs of passenger air.
