Rimac’s Concept One Beats Porsche 918 Spyder

By 10 October 2016

Another success for Croatian supercar producer.

Rimac Automobili’s Concept One has already demonstrated its power against Tesla P90D and LaFerrari and has thereby prompted calls for a duel with a member of the “holy trinity”, Porsche 918 Spyder. The challenge came from Alejandro Salomondrino, and the race took place at the Milan racing track in Michigan, reports Poslovni.hr on October 10, 2016.

The Porsche is a car which has regularly dominated McLaren P1 and LaFerrari and owner of Rimac Automobili said that he was nervous and did not know what to expect. “Here are the ‘big guys’ and I have to admit I was nervous. But, I thought to myself: ‘Even if we lose, it's not so bad if on the other side we have one of the best cars in the world’”, wrote Mate Rimac.

He said that he did not know what to expect from his car on such a course, since it was its first such race. After a warm-up, six runs followed. Concept One improved its time as the race progressed, but he was surprised by time differences in some of the races. Rimac lost just one of six races, and the reason was a mistake made at the start.

Rimac also published some interesting statistics about the race. With each 402-metre run, Concept One consumed 1.96 kWh of energy, while on the other hand one litre of fuel has 9.4 kWh of energy, so they spent energy equal to a litre and a half of fuel. At the start of the race, their battery was at 95 percent, and they finished the race with 72 percent of energy remaining.
