Modrić Happy: I Did Not Feel Any Difficulties on the Field Today

By 6 November 2016

Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, who on Sunday played half an hour for Real Madrid after a break of five weeks, has said he was happy to be back on the pitch and that it is most important that he felt no difficulty, reports Vecernji List.

“I am very happy that I could be back with the team and that I could play 30 minutes. Now I have to continue to practice and physically strengthen my knee,” said Modrić after Real Madrid won 3:0 against Leganes, a team from the Madrid suburbs.

The 31-year-old Croatian midfielder had an operation on his left knee on Friday, 2 October. After 5 weeks of recovery, Luka was welcomed with a standing ovation and the crowd chanting “Luka, Luka” upon his return to the pitch at Bernabeu.

“Thank you very much for the lovely welcome to make me feel better on the field. I believe that these 30 minutes, after a break of one month, was good, and the most important thing is that I did not feel any difficulties,” added Modrić.

Modrić came onto the pitch at Santiago Bernabeu during the 62nd minute in place of fellow Croatian national team member, 22-year-old Mateo Kovačić.

“This victory is very important. The first half hour we played well but later we fixed the game and scored three goals, although we could have had a few more,” concluded Modrić.

Could we potentially see Modrić in the starting 11 for Croatia’s World Cup Qualifying match against Iceland on 12 November?
