From the Adriatic to the highest point in Dalmatia. Strong legs needed.
Cycling has a very long tradition in Croatia. From the invention of the 'bicikl' Croatians have taken to the two wheeled device like they invented it. Just about every town has a cycling club and most weekends have some kind of event. The challenge often is how to find out about these events.
A fabulous ride is taking place today, May 15, 2016. Starting at sea level in Makarska, and climbing all the way to Sveti Jure (St George) the highest peak. The road takes you through the Biokovo Nature Park (Park Prirode Biokovo), climbing from sea level to 1762 metres above the sea, in just 32 kilometres. For the non-metric types, this is a climb of 5781 feet in 19.9 miles, or more than one mile in 20!
Here is a handy map, and note the Biokovo road will be closed today from 8am till 3pm.
Biokovo Nature Park maintains a quite active Facebook Page.
