Thousand of Ivans to Meet and Try to Enter Guinness Book of Records

By 21 May 2017

People named Ivan will meet at the Kupres Field and try to break a world record.

The Kupreški Kosci Association, with the strong support of the entire local community, is planning this summer to break a record with a gathering which will be organized at the Kupres Field. They have decided to call all men called Ivan, living in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world, to come to the Field on the last Sunday in July in order to get to know the amazing natural beauties and the rich culture and tradition of this Bosnian-Herzegovinian region, reports Večernji List on May 21, 2017.

But, that is not all. The event could enter the record books since the organisers plan to break a Guinness record and gather the largest number of people with the same name in one place.

The event aims to promote family and spiritual values and mark the Sunday, 30 July 2017, as a day of socialising and prayer. Special photography of all the participants is also planned.

The idea itself came from the verse “Ivan will come back with a thousand men”, which is the reason why the event will also include a concert by the author of the song, Marko Perković Thompson, who will sing for all the Ivans and other visitors.

“Gathering a thousand people with the same name will rise the tourism profile of this particular region to a higher level. All people of good will are welcome to attend,” says the organisers.

The Kupres Field is a large karst plateau in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located east of Livno Field and Glamoč Field, and north of Duvno Field. It stretches from the northwest towards the southeast, is 24 kilometres long, 10 kilometres wide and covers an area of 93 square kilometres. The average altitude of the field is 1,130 metres above sea level. The main town is Kupres.
