BBC Filming Tv Show 'McMafia' in Opatija

British broadcasting giant BBC is currently filming its next hit 'McMafia' in Opatija, reports Novi list. Even though the plot of the show takes place in eight different countries, the whole project is getting filmed in Croatia.

The crew arrived in Opatija yesterday and will stay in the Kvarner gem for two weeks; the first scenes have already been filmed in Hotel Milenij.

Known as a thriller whose plot is centered around the son of a Russian mobster entering the world of organised crime, the show is an adaptation of the bestselling book 'McMafia' written by The Guardian's journalist Misha Glenny, with the script written by Hossein Amini. Directed by James Watkins, McMafia is starring James Norton as the lead - an English actor known for his roles in shows 'Happy Valley', 'Grantchester' and 'War and Peace'.

One can't imagine better promotion for the beloved tourist destination than having the BBC filming in town, with multiple Opatija's gorgeous hotels and villas used as filming locations.

The crew already spent some time in Zagreb in late 2016, and is now travelling all over the coast. They filmed in Split and on Brač earlier in June, and judging by this snap published by the Israeli actor Oshri Cohen who stars in the show, they all had a pretty good time:
