By 7 October 2017

Strong bura created problems at this years Mrduja Regatta, causing damages on several boats, some even got stranded with dozens of sailors falling off the boat.

At this years Mrduja Regatta, the participants had a lot of problems due to the very strong bura wind; from stranded boats and unplanned swimming to broken masts and damaged sails, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on October 7, 2017.

At 1.35 pm, after more than 2.5 hours of sailing, the first to cross the finish line was Tutta Trieste 2 with Miloš Radonjić from the Kotor sailing club Lahor at the helm. While Tutta Trieste 2 celebrated victory, several boats faced hardship at sea. Some boats got stranded, others suffered damages such as broken masts and numerous torn sails. Some of the sailors had fallen off of their sailboats.

According to Morski.hr, the HGSS confirmed that it has participated in the multiple rescue actions of a few shipwrecks near the Gomilica Bay on Brač.Thankfully, everyone is alive and healthy, although they might catch a cold after the regatta...

The 86th Mrduja regatta started at 11 am sharp with moderately-strong bura wind blowing at speed of 15 to 20 knots. An hour later, the three boats to first sail around the Mrduja islet, located 11 nautical miles from Split, were:

  1. MOLO LONGO TUTTA TRIESTE, with Rajko Kujundžić  from the Rijeka  sailing club Galeb at the helm
  2. TUTTA TRIESTE 2 with Miloš Radonjić from the Kotor club Lahor at the helm
  3. POLET FURIOSO with Nikola Bešković from JK Labud at the helm

Sailors from yacht Polet Furioso (owner Žarko Dešković) were in the lead of the regatta when their sails broke. Not surprising, considering at one point of the race they were travelling at 26.5 knots on 25-knot winds. After the accident they barely made it to the finish line.

The first three boats to cross the finish line were:

  1. TUTTA TRIESTE 2 with Miloš Radonjić at the helm
  2. OLA with Toni Bulaja at the helm
  3. FATAMORGANA with Mater Arapov at the helm

Congratulations to all!
