Fans have reportedly spotted Kit Harington in town, with Emilia Clarke rumoured to be joining her co-star in the coming days
Winter has finally come: the eight and final season of the massively popular TV series Game of Thrones has begun filming in Dubrovnik, reports Dubrovački vjesnik on February 6, 2018. Fort Lovrijenac and the monumental city walls are taking on the role of King's Landing one last time, in what has been called the show's most expensive season to date.
A week ago, filming tents and protective fences were set up on Pile, with tightened security now keeping a watchful eye on the set. In November 2017, HBO's creative was spotted looking into new filming locations in Dubrovnik, meaning there's a good chance of GoT's dramatic final stand-offs unraveling elsewhere in the city.
Whereas Dubrovnik's residents have often stood in as extras in numerous film productions in recent years, unofficial sources say the locals won't take part in filming this time around, with the HBO's crew doing all the work instead.

Still, Dubrovnik's walls might see some serious stardust in the coming days: rumours say that actor Kit Harington has already arrived in Dubrovnik. This would be the first time for Harington to film in the Pearl of the Adriatic and a minor spoiler in regards to the series itself; if the news turn out to be true, they would imply Jon Snow will again visit the King's Landing in season 8.
Harington is also rumoured to be joined by Emilia Clarke in the coming days. The two have filmed some of their shared scenes in Iceland in January, and considering the popular actress has just finished shooting an ad for Dolce and Gabbana in Rome, it wouldn't surprise us if she headed on to the Croatian coast to reunite with her co-star.
