By 17 February 2018

As some prices rise, others fall.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 17th of February, 2018, the average producer price for agricultural products in the fourth quarter last year increased by 9.7 percent compared to the same period of 2016, according to data taken from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

As a result, plant product prices have risen by 14.1 percent and the price of livestock, poultry and livestock products has risen by 1.5 percent. As the prices of plant products rose, the prices of products in almost all groups were influenced, except wine and fodder (krmiva/animal feed). The increase in the price of plant products is mainly due to lower yields owing to poor or unfavourable weather conditions.

For example, grain prices increased by 18.5 percent, fruit prices by 36.4 percent, vegetable prices by 3.2 percent, olive oil by 3.8 percent, and potato prices, including seeds, by 42.7 percent. Feed (fodder) prices decreased by 11.7 percent at the same time, and wine prices were 6.2 percent.

CBS data show that prices of livestock, poultry and livestock products rose by 1.5 percent in the fourth quarter last year, as compared to the same quarter last year. Thus, the prices of livestock products rose by 6.5 percent, milk prices 7.2 percent, eggs 4.9 percent, while pork prices fell 2.3 percent, and sheep and goats by 4.9 percent.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, the prices of goods and services increased by 4.3 percent, which was the area most affected by the rise in seed and plant prices. In the same period, Fertiliser prices rose 7.7 percent, energy and lubricant prices by 6.3 percent, veterinary services by three percent, and animal feed by 0.7 percent.
