By 30 July 2018

ZAGREB, July 30, 2018 - About 40 forged works of art by renowned Croatian and foreign artists will be on display at the Duke's Palace in the coastal city of Zadar until the end of August.

The exhibition "The Beauty of False Splendour", organised by the Ministry of the Interior and the National Museum in Zadar, will be opened on Tuesday. It will feature mostly oils on canvas and several sculptures.

On show will be counterfeit works by Croatian painters, including Edo Murtić, Vasko Lipovac, Miljenko Stančić, Boris Bučan and Ivan Rabuzin, as well as those by Salvador Dali and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

The forgeries are part of a Police Museum collection, which comprises about 70 counterfeit art works seized by the police.

Systematic collection of this material began in 2009 when the Police Museum, acting through the Criminal Investigation Department, arranged with courts that, after the completion of court proceedings, forgeries would not be destroyed but handed over to the Museum, the Ministry of the Interior said.
