The centre cares about children without adequate parental care.
Over the weekend, SOS moms, employees, guests and friends marked the 25th birthday of SOS Children's Village Lekenik. For the celebrations, the small village south of Zagreb welcomed numerous musicians, artists and people with a large heart, reports Jutarnji List on October 2, 2018.
In the morning, the first guests of the SOS Children's Village Lekenik were welcomed by the Lekenik Majorettes who prepared an impressive performance.
At the very beginning of the ceremony, the guests were greeted by Mario Čović, director of the SOS Children's Village Lekenik, while the treasurer Lea Sokolić wished everyone to have a good time and many more successful years. The birthday congratulations were also brought by local officials.
The musical part of the programme featured young violinists who performed under the leadership of their professor, while young actors from the Little Theatre of Fairytales drama group delighted everyone with their original performance. A short documentary film titled “25 Years of Carefree Childhood” presented the life in the village.
The end of the ceremony was marked by singer Antonija Šola, as well as a ceremony celebrating cooperation between INA and SOS Children's Village Croatia. The director of the Sisak refinery, Damir Butković, handed over a check for this year's donation which is intended for maintenance of the houses in the village. “It is an extraordinary honour and pleasure for me to present this donation to SOS Children's Village Croatia and continue our friendly co-operation that has been going on for almost a decade. The partnership with the SOS Children's Village is of great importance to us because in this way we provide support to children and youth without parental care and we try to, as much as possible, brighten up their everyday lives,” said Butković.
“The value of our partnership with INA grows year after year. We are happy to have such friends who support us daily, and are supportive in creating families for children without proper parental care,” said the national director of SOS Children's Village Croatia, Višnja Tuškan-Krupić.
The celebration continued with artists from the “Cest is d'best” festival. The children enjoyed magic tricks, and performances of actors, clowns and street performers. Of course, a birthday celebration must always feature a birthday cake and many delicious cookies, which were this time provided by the Dr. Oetker company. The ice cream was donated by Ledo.
After the entertainment programme, those who still had some energy left participated in the sports competitions. The celebrations lasted the whole day, and Lekenik had another birthday celebration to remember.
