Have you noticed a film set coming to life at the Golden Gate entrance to Diocletian's Palace in Split? Here's why.
The world is currently experiencing the final season of perhaps the most popular television series ever - Game of Thrones. One step closer to the end with each passing episode, many fans wonder what will come next.
HBO chief Richard Plepler said he was very excited about the future of the series and has a great deal of choice following the final eighth season. "What's dead may never die”, they say, and Game of Thrones will most likely live on in various forms forever.
The rumour mill has revealed that several different prequel series is under preparation. It is not currently known which of them will make it to final production, but HBO President and CEO Richard Plepler says they have a great selection of stories to choose from.
While we reminisce on our precious time with Game of Thrones, we also remember that much of the series was filmed in Croatia, mostly in Dubrovnik and Split, and in other locations around Split and Klis. Tourists know best just how much the series affected tourism in Croatia, especially in the locations where the series filmed.
Thus, you could imagine the buzz in Split this week as a film set comes to life at the famous Golden Gate of Diocletian’s Palace.
“Is it for a Game of Thrones’ prequel series?”
Not quite, but it's still pretty exciting.
Though Split is not connected with the filming of a prequel (yet), it will be the home yet another legendary series. Namely, Amazon Studios is moving to Split for an adaptation of Stephen King's literary series ‘The Dark Tower’, reports Dalmacija Danas on May 10, 2019.
The series will consist of a total of 13 episodes, developed by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Discovery) and Stephen King.
The series will make Split its home from May 10 to 13, 2019. Movements through the Golden Gate will be limited during this time.
The first three days will be reserved for set design, and filming should take place only on May 13.
