Flood Aftermath: Over HRK 1 Billion in Damage, No Beaches Left in Nin, More Than 20 Bridges Gone

By 19 September 2017

Flash flooding caused more than HRK1 billion worth of damage to the Zadar County, mainly Zadar and Nin, destroying roads and washing away bridges following torrential downpours.

The flood which happened last Monday in the Zadar County might rack up as much as HRK1 billion in damages, reports Morski.hr on September 18, 2017.

After the meeting with mayors, prefect of Zadar County, Božidar Longin, concluded that the damage toll is much higher than it seemed at first sight.

“We can not get out of this by ourselves. Until the next tourist season, we have to rebuild all of the destroyed roads and infrastructure in the county, including over 20 destroyed bridges. We also need to renovate the beaches because we no longer have a single beach in Nin. The same is true of Ražanac municipality and a number of other places in the county,” concluded Zadar County Prefect.

It will take a lot of time for all of it to be rebuilt, and Longin has announced today that he will send a letter to the Government of the Republic of Croatia asking for help. Help and aid will also be sought from the European Union.
