Belgian Company to Build Care Home for Alzheimer's Patients in Duga Resa

By 27 January 2018

Lindbergh Care Group from Belgium is planning to build a care home in Karlovac County

Duga Resa, a town in Karlovac County, will soon house a unique venue that will offer its residents an entirely new concept of living: a care home for children and the elderly with a focus on patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The investment for this much-needed facility comes all the way from Belgium: last year, the Lindbergh Care Group acquired the estate in Tušmer in Duga Resa, at a location which used to house a children's playground. In the meantime, they bought more land and expanded the project to include an apartment complex and provide accommodation for the youngest patients. Named 'The Garden of Life on Mrežnica', this new concept is worth five million euro, with a part of the sum covered by EU funding.

"We've built a line of care homes all over Europe, but this will be our first project in Croatia, unique for Belgium as well", said Hilde Maria P. Bosmans, CEO of Lindbergh Care Group. The beautiful estate near Mrežnica river will soon house modern apartments, a children's playroom and a restaurant, as well as provide services such as hairstyling and pedicure. The new complex will open 50 job positions in fields ranging from health care to hospitality, hairstyling and child care. If everything goes according to plan, construction will begin in March, and the first tenants should be able to move in as early as in spring next year, according to Bosmans.

Mayor of Duga Resa Tomislav Boljar called the investor a visionary. "The new care home building will have two floors and a gallery, spanning over 5600 square metres in total and housing 206 users. The ground floor will house a restaurant, a café, a pedicure salon and a hair salon. A home for mobile patients will be located on the first floor, where we will provide care for patients of the nearby hospital in Duga Resa as well. We'll accommodate immobile patients on the second floor, and the gallery with a large terrace will house around 20 patients suffering from Alzheimer's who will receive constant care", said Maja Matanić Vautsman, director of Lindbergh Care Croatia.

According to Vautsman, they are also planning to build an apartment complex adjacent to the main building, featuring 28 apartments equipped with a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom. These accommodation units will host married couples or singles who can either use the services provided in the care home or retain their privacy.

The Belgian company is also interested in renovation of the army barracks on the Jelačić Square in Karlovac. In turn, Karlovac County is planning to transform the former military clinic into a home for 22 patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
