BiH Prosecution: No Conditions for Mamić's Extradition to Croatia

Is Zdravko about to walk away from the flames he lit once again?

Dinamo Zagreb's controversial and outspoken Zdravko Mamić, who is still in Bosnia and Herzegovina enjoying his rights, holds both Croatian and Bosnian citizenship, and Bosnia usually doesn't extradite its citizens.

As Index writes on the 4th of July, 2018, the Bosnia and Herzegovina prosecution has claimed for there are no conditions for the disgraced football tycoon Zdravko Mamić's extradition back to Croatia to face trial, and that opinion has now been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which should then make a final decision on the request for extradition desired by the Croatian judiciary, Sarajevo's Dnevni avaz said.

Referring back to unnamed sources in the BiH state prosecution, a proposal to the Court of BiH was quoted which sought to reject Croatia's request for the extradition of the former executive director of Dinamo Zagreb, who was ''unlawfully'' sentenced to six and a half years in prison before the Osijek court.

At the beginning of June, Mamić conveniently fled to Bosnia and Herzegovina and obtained refuge on the basis of the fact that he holds Bosnian nationality.

The Croatian Ministry of Justice filed a request for Mamić's extradition to the Bosnian authorities shortly after on June the 18th, and the court's decision in such cases is brought by no less than the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The final decision on whether someone, holding Bosnian citizenship or not, will be extradited to another state on a judicial decision is always firmly in the hands of the justice minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mato Jozić.

Dnevni avaz states that the opinion of the BiH Prosecution, which has stated that there are no legal requirements for Mamić's extradition to the Republic of Croatia, has somewhat eased the task for the Court of BiH, which now can only conclude that fact.

"There is no longer any chance that Mamić will be extradited to Zagreb, so the saga of the most wanted Croat-Bosnian fugitive, as things stand, has come to an end," writes the newspaper.
