ZAGREB, Aug 10, 2020 - The Croatian Astronomical Union is organising telescopic viewing of the peak of Perseids meteor shower in the night between 12 and 13 August.
Spectators can expect to see the greatest number of meteors during the shower's peak and this year, the rate of meteors is expected to reach about 100 per hour.
The union also urges local authorities to turn off street-lighting from midnight until the morning of 13 August, so as to enable a better impression to be obtained during this celestial phenomenon also known as the "tears of Saint Lawrence."
Tehnoloski Park in the town of Krizevci and the observatory at Gornje Sitno in Split will be the venues for telescopic viewing late in the night of 11 August.
On 12 August, the viewing will be also organised in Daruvar, Djakovo, Fuzine, and on Artatore Beach in Losinj.
