More Cattle, Fewer Dairy Cows

ZAGREB, 24 April 2022 - Despite an increase in the total number of cattle of 1.2% in 2021 compared to 2020, the total number of dairy cows continued to decrease, by 7.3%, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics has said. Last year there were 428,000 head of cattle. The number of cattle of two years and older decreased by 0.6% to 165,000 head, and the number of dairy cows fell by 7.3% to 102,000. Book Reading Continues to Decrease, Survey Shows

ZAGREB, 24 April 2022 - The annual book reading survey conducted on the occasion of Book Night shows that the number of book lovers in Croatia has been gradually decreasing in recent years. The survey covered 1,000 respondents and was conducted on 1-18 March. It shows that over the past year only 42% of respondents aged 16 and over read at least one book, down from 45% in 2021 and from 49% in 2020. Roma Killed by Ustasha in WWII Commemorated

ZAGREB, 24 April 2022 - A group of Roma killed in the village of Hrastina by Ustasha units in the night between 24 and 25 April 1945 was commemorated for the first time at the Marija Gorica cemetery on Sunday. The commemoration was organised by the Kali Sara association of Roma in Croatia, which also refurbished the memorial in cooperation with the Marija Gorica municipality and Roma MP Veljko Kajtazi. Croatia Reports 560 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 Deaths

ZAGREB, 24 April 2022 - In the last 24 hours, 560 coronavirus cases, out of 2,989 tests, and four related deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Sunday. There are 4,505 active cases, including 455 hospitalised patients, of whom 23 are on ventilators, while 3,041 persons are self-isolating. To date, Croatia has registered 1,117,735 coronavirus cases and the death toll stands at 15,782. Kalle Rovanpera Wins 2022 Croatia Rally!

April 24, 2022 - The 2022 Croatia Rally has come to an end on Sunday, with driver Kalle Rovanpera taking the title at this year's race!  Finn Kalle Rovanpera (Toyota) celebrated at this year's WRC Croatia Rally. At the dramatic end of the race, he surpassed Estonian Ott Tanak (Hyundai) by 4.3 seconds in total, reports HRT.  From the very beginning of the Croatia Rally on Friday, Rovanpera led after each stage. Paddle Across the Atlantic: Two Croatian Veterans Complete 83 Days of Rowing

April 24, 2022 - Croatian veterans Martin Cruickshank (61) and Werner Ilić (55) successfully rowed to Barbados on Earth Day after 83 days spent on the ocean as part of the 'Paddle Across the Atlantic Ocean' project.  After almost three months, two Croatian veterans succeeded in the historic endeavor of crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat. 4Islands MTB Race: Croatia Takes 2nd Place in Masters Category

April 24, 2022 - After two days on the island of Krk and one day on Rab and Cres, the teams welcomed the grand finale of the 4Islands MTB race on Lošinj on Saturday.
