VIDEO: Film About Croatian Filming Locations Wins 4 Awards at 3 Festivals

Whenever someone talks about filming in Croatia, Game of Thrones (GoT) comes to most people's minds instantly. While the hit series saw Croatia put at the top of the ''must visit'' lists of many film and TV buffs, there are far more Croatian filming locations to be discovered and celebrated than that. As Morski writes on the 16th of June, 2020, the promotional film called Croatia Your Next Filming Destination won second place in the "Region International" category back in March this year at the 20th edition of the prestigious Golden City Gate festival. It is a festival held during the ITB…

Flying to Croatia? Why You Should Print Out These IATA Guidelines

June 16, 2020 - There is a list of things you should have with you when traveling to Croatia in the corona era. A printout of the IATA guidelines is one of them.  There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding travel in the post-corona world, and while many of us worry if it is safe to travel at all, others are wondering what rules and regulations ring true across the board, as we are met with new information each day. In an effort to hopefully curb any confusion, we're telling you why travelers should print out the IATA guidelines if…

Bura Wind Leaves Traces: Two Passengers On Destructive Wind This February

June 16, 2020 - Four months after terrifying bura wind blasted through Dalmatia at 270 km/h, TCN received a message from two travellers who experienced the bura in the worst way imaginable. Alicia and Diana were on RSD Travel's one-week tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. They travelled from London to Dubrovnik on February 4, 2020. Unfortunately, due to the strong bura winds, the plane was unable to land at Dubrovnik Airport (it was due to arrive at 21:00), and the flight was diverted to Split. Since the accommodation for the first night of the tour was in…

Croatian Tourism: When Might Prices of Accommodation Fall?

In the first part of June, 20 percent of last year's tourist results were achieved, as Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 15th of June, 2020. Slovenes, Austrians, Hungarians, and from now onward, Germans can come to Croatia without special conditions and the need for self-isolation upon return. Will it save Croatian tourism? That question was analysed on Croatian radio. ''We'd certainly be satisfied with as many numbers as possible. We're pleased with the number of more than 115,000 tourists currently staying in Croatia. Two weekends ago, we started out with 26,000 registered guests. Today is a turning point in terms of…

Hvar Tests Rapid Temperature Check Tech from Varazdin in Corona Fight

June 16, 2020 - Some new rapid temperature check software developed by a Croatian company in Varazdin is tested on the island of Hvar - an outstanding tool in the battle against corona, especially against the second wave.   This would be absolutely perfect for the island of Hvar, was my first reaction when the technology was shown to me and explained.  Croatia's premier island, whose most famous son, Ivan Vucetic, discovered the art of fingerprinting. The wellness island where organised tourism in Europe began in 1868 with the Hvar Health Society. And an island which did an outstanding job keeping…

ZAGREB, June 15, 2020 - Croatian airports in April this year handled only 4,482 passengers, which is a 99.4% drop compared to the same period of 2019 and a result of flight cancellations and airport closures caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, data from the national statistical office (DZS) show. There were only 420 flight operations in April, a drop of 95.4% compared to April 2019. A total of 797 tonnes of cargo were handled, 27% less than in April 2019. Zagreb Airport recorded the most passengers, 4,478, a 98.4% drop from the same month of last year. The other four…

As Croatian Tourism Sector Cautiously Awakens, Tourism Minister Optimistic

The global (and ongoing) coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on the world's tourism and Croatian tourism, which is the country's strongest economic branch, hasn't been immune from the beating it has been given. The economic consequences are harsh in their nature, and for the sector that makes up 20 percent of Croatia's GDP, is there any light at the end of the tunnel for 2020's season? As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 15th of June, 2020, the Croatian tourism sector is slowly beginning to wake up once again. Four and five-star hotels, as well as holiday homes and camps…

Croatia, a Land of Little Promotion Where the Police Answer Tourist Emails

June 15, 2020 - Although tourism accounts for 20% of Croatia's GDP, it is a land of little promotion where the police answer tourist emails. It is time to abolish the Croatian National Tourist Board and start again. I have been very critical of Croatia's tourism chiefs in recent times, and I make no apology for that. With so many people depending on tourism for their daily survival, Croatian tourism bodies need to deliver more than ever before, or more people will lose jobs, businesses will close, and more rental properties will be at the mercy of bank repossessions. So…

International Media Confusion (Again) as Croatia Opens Its Borders to EU Citizens

June 15, 2020 - As Europe opens many of its internal borders, more international media confusion about the situation on Croatia's borders.  The day has finally arrived.  June 15, 2020, the day we have all been waiting for. The day when the EU was planning to announce it is reopening its internal borders. I have a busy day of meetings, so I decided to wake up early to publish the official confirmation, as well as update the TCN daily travel update, which is also available in 24 languages.  Incredibly, I can't find an official confirmation anywhere, and I have looked…
