Extremist Right Protest Takes Place in Zagreb

By 26 February 2017

Just another Sunday morning in Croatian capital.

A rather bizarre group of rightwing extremists, led by Dražen Keleminac, president of the marginal Indigenous Croatian Party of Rights (A-HSP), organized a march in the centre of Zagreb on Sunday, reports Index.hr on February 26, 2017.

They lined up on the main city square, and afterwards some of the participants gave “an oath to the homeland”, in which they said they would, among other things, “banish the enemies of Croatia” from the country. The participants also reportedly expressed their support for US President Donald Trump.

Dressed in black, carrying a huge shield with a controversial variant of Croatian coat of arms, they waved American flags and attracted the attention of passers-by. Among the flags which they carried there was also a flag of neo-Nazi Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands. NPD is considered to be the most important National-Socialist party in Europe after 1945. Germany's intelligence agency reportedly considers NPD as a threat to the constitutional order because of its philosophy, and therefore it keeps it under constant surveillance.

According to unofficial sources, president of A-HSP Dražen Keleminec was arrested during the protest. The Zagreb Police Department confirmed only that one person was indeed detained.

“During the public gathering, which was duly reported in advance, one person was brought for criminal investigation for violation of the law on public order and peace”, said the Zagreb Police Department in a statement.
