ZAGREB, January 26, 2018 - In the past two days, another 36 Syrian refugees were relocated from Turkey to Croatia, the Croatian Interior Ministry said in a press release Friday.
A group of 26 people, mostly families with small children, arrived in Croatia Thursday and another 10 people arrived on Friday.
The first Syrian refugees from Turkey, namely 40 people, were relocated to Croatia on 28 November 2017.
The Ministry said the relocated Syrians would be accommodated in the reception centre for asylum seekers in Kutina.
This is a voluntary procedure as these people picked Croatia as their final destination, the Ministry said, adding that the Syrians would be integrated in the Croatian society as soon as possible. They were sent to Croatia under the European Union's relocation and resettlement scheme.
With the help of these migration management measures, Croatia and other EU member states are setting up the protection mechanism aimed at protecting human life and avoiding unwanted situations during attempts to illegally cross EU borders, the Ministry said.
