ZAGREB, April 9, 2018 - Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković congratulated Viktor Orban on Monday on his victory in Sunday's parliamentary election in Hungary, the government said.
"Congratulations on your success at yesterday's parliamentary election and the convincing majority in parliament which takes you toward a new term in office as Hungary's prime minister," Plenković's message to Orban said.
"The historical ties between Croatian and Hungary today are reflected in our very close political, economic and cultural ties. I am looking forward to continuing cooperation with you to improve and strengthen our bilateral relations and to constructively resolve key issues," the message said.
Orban is the leader of the conservative nationalist Fidesz party that won 48.8% of the vote at the election. Fidesz is part of the European Peoples' Party group, as is the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) led by Plenković.
This will be Orban's third term in office.
