Government's Projects “A Turning Point for Dalmatia”

By 5 May 2018

ZAGREB, May 5, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Friday said that his cabinet would do all it can to see that conclusions and agreements, valued at more than two billion kuna, should be implemented and thus contribute to developing Split and Split-Dalmatia County.

During the cabinet meeting held in Split, about 30 items on the agenda were related to the town and county's development. Thirty agreements were signed at the conclusion of the meeting and the prime minister told a press conference that the agreements "will enable the development of all parts of Split-Dalmatia County which accounts for about 25% of Croatia's tourism."

Plenković is also optimistic about yet another very favourable tourism season. The cabinet meeting, as well as the four previously held outside the capital Zagreb, show that the government has fostered a spirit of partnership and cooperation with local authorities, he added.

He announced that one of the government sessions in October will take place on the island of Hvar and that it will focus on issues related to the islands. That is when Croatian Tourism Days are scheduled to be held and the town of Hvar will be celebrating its 150th year of tourism.

Split Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara described the meeting as a turning point that will boost Dalmatia's economic development. "This meeting is a turning point that will guarantee development of Croatia's south and Dalmatia," Krstulović Opara said. He added that by 2020, when Croatia is set to take of the chair of the European Union, Split will have developed to the standard that it will definitely have something to show Croatia's European partners.

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić underscored that the government will consider Split's potential for organising international conferences and meetings in 2020 when Croatia chairs the EU. She added that in June this year a ministerial meeting of the Central European Initiative has been scheduled to take place in the biggest Croatian Adriatic city.
