ZAGREB, May 10 ,2018 - The government on Thursday entrusted the Agriculture Ministry with the purchase of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) for the needs of that ministry and the ministry of defence, and the purchase is to cost up to five million euro.
According to Agriculture Ministry State Secretary Željko Kraljičak, up to 70% of the value of the purchase would be covered by European Union funds.
The UAS will be used to improve surveillance in fisheries and the border at sea as well as for the prevention of fires.
The defence ministry is charged with logistic support and management of the UAS.
The government put forward a bill on establishing a military solidarity foundation for the promotion of humanitarian activities and support to employees in the defence sector. The purpose of the Military Defence Fund, the founding equity of which is 100,000 kuna, is mutual assistance in distress for the defence sector staff.
The fund will receive revenues from donations, charity functions and profits of state-owned companies as well as from voluntary pecuniary contributions which employees in the defence system can freely make.
The government also endorsed a strategic overview of the defence sector.
