Report from today's press conference

Organizing committee of the 2017 European Weightlifting Championships held a press conference in Split on October 6th, 2015 after their successful trip to Klaipeda, Latvia where the Executive Committee of the European Weightlifting Federation confirmed Split will indeed host the next European Championship.

According to the president of the Croatian Weightlifting Federation Damjan Krklec, more than 400 athletes will participate and with their accompanying team members, delegates and medicinal staff he believes the total number of guests will be well over 800: "This means more than 3 5000 overnight stays in Split during pre-season. Eurosport will cover 26 hours of this competition live and we hope we will be able to utilize this wast media space considering that more than 55 million people will be watching across the globe" Krklec added.

Total costs of organisation are estimated at 7 million kuna but the Split Sports commissioner Hrvoje Akrap believes it will be money well spent: "Not only will the city benefit in terms of promotion and number of guests but it will also benefit economically. We will do our very best to once again prove we are great hosts".

European weightlifting championships will take place from April 1st until April 9th, 2017.
