FIFA has appointed Sanja Rođak Karšić as an assistant referee for the female football tournament at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
Croatia had just a few football referees at international competitions, and they have not done a great job in the past, and consequently, they have been left out of the big tournaments, but on May 3, 2016, the news came from FIFA that Croatian referee Sanja Rođak Karšić is saving the honor of the Croatian football, having being appointed to officiate at the Women’s Football Tournament at the Olympics.
We have often written about the problems in Croatian Football Federation and have pointed out the issue of selecting referees in the organization. Fortunately, FIFA and UEFA have programs of including more female officials in the organizations, so some good news came out of CFF at last.
It has to be mentioned that this news is brought by nogometplus.net, an independent football site covering news from FIFA and UEFA directly while Croatian Football Federation has remained silent about the matter. An odd fact, knowing how much the officials love to brag with any international recognition they receive. One could we be left wondering if they are even aware of it?
Thirty-two years old from Podravske, Sesvete will join in the Ukrainian team of referees at the Olympics, and all that is left for us is hope that she will do a better job than her male colleagues.
