Croatian tennis player Ana Konjuh is through to the third round of the strong WTA tournament in Dubai after she defeated on Tuesday Australian Samantha Stosur with 6-4, 6-3 after an hour and 23 minutes of play
Konjuh entered the match versus the 2011 US Open winner with a break and a 2-0 lead. The Australian made comeback in the sixth game, when she had three break points. Konjuh saved the first two, but not the third, Jutarnji List reported on February 21, 2017.
The 19-year-old Dubrovnik native was not troubled by this and gained another break in the ninth game and then served to win the first set with 6-4.
In the second set there were less break opportunities, with Konjuh using hers at 3-3 and then her service to lead 5-3. Stosur served to stay in the match, but the Croatian used another break to win it.
In the next round Konjuh will meet the 16th world player, Russian Jelena Vesnina, whom she only played once before in Auckland in 2015, with Vesnina being the better of the two.
