This is something you don't see that often in football...
In last night’s La Liga match between Eibar and Real Madrid, home team Eibar fans acted much to everyone’s surprise when applauding a player on the opposing team, reports Index.hr on March 5, 2017.
Even though their team was losing 0-4, Eibar fans stood up and applauded Croatian footballer and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić as he exited the pitch on a substitution for fellow Croat Mateo Kovačić.
Rival fans showing praise to opposing team players is rarely seen in football, and the act even surprised coach Zinedine Zidane.
"It's really strange. It is rarely seen by rival fans," commented Zidane.
Surely a testament to his hard work in the first 70 minutes of the game and to his incredible career in Spain over the last four years, that must have made Luka feel pretty good. You can watch the video below.
The game between Eibar and Real Madrid ended 1-4. Real Madrid is currently in second place in the La Liga standings, just one point behind Barcelona.
