HNS Confirms: Zlatko Dalić Will Lead Croatia in World Cup!

By 14 November 2017

The President of the Croatian Football Federation Davor Šuker and coach Zlatko Dalić met in Zagreb this afternoon.

HNS President Davor Šuker and coach of the Croatian national team Zlatko Dalić agreed on the conditions for further cooperation during a meeting held at the Croatian Football Federation’s headquarters on November 14, 2017. Šuker and HNS have confirmed that Dalić will take the Croatian national team to the World Cup in Russia next year, writes the HNS website.

If you recall, Dalić took over the national team after former coach Ante Čačić led the team in a draw against Finland in Rijeka. Dalić was called up as the interim coach for the final group stage match against Ukraine (where Croatia won 0:2 in Kiev) and for the additional playoffs where Croatia advanced to the World Cup over Greece after winning 4:1 in Zagreb and drawing 0:0 in Piraeus.

"Zlatko Dalić absolutely justified our confidence in the matches against Ukraine and Greece and thus confirmed that he was the correct choice after Finland. Just as quickly as we agreed at first, we have now reached an agreement very easily, which proves that we have a common interest which is the success of the Croatian team. I congratulated the coach for what he managed in the short term, and he showed that he deserves to be on the bench of the Croatian national team. Zlatko and the national team will be ensured the maximum conditions ahead of Russia so that we can achieve the best result there,” said HNS President Davor Šuker.

"I am proud of what we have done in the last three games because the advancement into the World Cup is of great significance for the whole of Croatian football. I said that we would easily reach an agreement and that was confirmed today. I thank President Šuker and the Federation’s Executive Committee for their trust, and I can promise everyone that I will continue to give my maximum to make the national team play as high as the quality of the players we have in our ranks,” Zlatko Dalić added.

The Executive Committee of the Croatian Football Federation will verify this agreement at a session next week, after which a cooperation agreement will be signed.
