President of the Croatian Football Federation Davor Šuker has not had the best of luck in Dalmatia lately.
During the ongoing pre-election campaign for president of HNS, current HNS president Davor Šuker and his team from the Executive Committee have “remembered” that they needed to launch a financing project for the construction and renovation of pitches for clubs in the Croatian First League. HNS has agreed to bear all the costs and planned to present the project on December 12, 2017, conveniently ten days before the election assembly, reports Dalmacija Danas on November 30, 2017.
After the Split mayor denied HNS president Davor Šuker’s call for the meeting yesterday, Hajduk president Ivan Kos is the next to show his bitter feelings towards HNS’s leading man.
Hajduk’s president writes:
Dear Mr. Šuker,
Over the last five years, we have repeatedly, amongst other things, pointed out to you the topic of poor football infrastructure both in Split and Split-Dalmatia County, as well as in all of Croatia. All of the investments in the infrastructure at the sports center at Poljud have been done without any support from HNS, and only in the past year and a half, we invested 12.5 million HRK from its funds and the funds from the City.
For your information, in January of this year, we decided to bring together clubs from small communities and connect them with consultants who found tenders to finance the sports infrastructure in small communities using grants from the European Union. That was your job which, since you were elected as president of HNS in July 2012, you have not done, and now, ten days before the election for the new president of the Croatian Football Federation, you have finally organized a meeting on this topic.
What we need, what you can do, at which location, why and by what means should have been defined in 2012. Since then, spatial planning and project documentation had to be done that today would be realized into projects. Then someone might have believed in your promises. We invited you, repeatedly asked for meetings and conversations with other football employees, but Mr. Šuker, you simply did not care. You did not care about the irregularities in the Croatian First League, the situation in the judiciary organization, for the younger teams, or the assignment of TV rights for the Croatian First League without the participants knowing anything about the items in the contract. Even last week, without any respect for the clubs, without transparency, and with the elections before us, you announced a competition with which you wish to assign TV rights to ‘someone’ for another three years. A few months ago, you had a more important job than attending the European Championships for the U17 team or being at the final of the Croatian Cup, or just yesterday, when Osijek played in the quarter-finals of this year's Cup in your birthplace.
For five years you locked yourself from the clubs, from the fans, and the entire football public. You neglected the Croatian First League, and the money that belonged to Croatian football you spent unknowingly and unselfishly. Now, ten days before the election, you call for a conversation. In five years you have not solved any problems in Croatian football, and indeed you have become one of its biggest problems. Because of all of the above, we do not want to take part in your play again and reject the call for this meeting. We firmly hope that after December 22, the Croatian Football Federation will eventually be led by a person who will equally respect all Croatian clubs and honestly take care of our football progress.
Touché.
