Borna Ćorić managed to place in the semifinal of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells!
Borna Ćorić has advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells after celebrating against the finalist of last year’s US Open Kevin Anderson with 2:6, 6:4, 7:6! After two hours and 22 minutes of tennis, Ćorić entered his first victory against the South African in the quarterfinal match, reports Gol.hr on March 15, 2018.
But it wasn’t so easy.
Borna's poor start to the match had everyone convinced this would be an easy win for Anderson, but after he lost his serve in the third set at 2:3, he immediately returned with a break and was back in the game! Ćorić deprived Anderson of the service twice in the game after the South African lost the service only once in his previous three games.
Though Ćorić played an unmemorable first set, he immediately broke Anderson’s first service at the beginning of the second set to hold his own. Anderson constantly threatened Borna in the third set, but Corić did not give up until the sixth game.
After losing his service, Borna proved his undeniable fighting spirit and immediately returned with a break! Serving in a tie-break Ćorić was once again under pressure, but with his signature moves, he took the set in the decisive game.
Anderson gave a point to Borna with a double fault, and the Croat took the South African with a 5:3 lead to ultimately reach his first semifinal of an ATP 1000 tournament.
This was the third quarterfinal match for Borna at a Masters 1000 tournament. Last year, Borna played in the quarterfinal in Madrid and lost to Dominic Thiem, and in Cincinnati in 2016, he was knocked out by Croatia’s best tennis player, Marin Čilić, who went on to win the tournament.
In the semifinal, Ćorić will play against the winner of the match between Chung Hyeon and title defender Roger Federer.
