By 19 March 2018

Now that the Indian Wells Masters 1000 series tournament has come to an end, which saw Croatia’s budding tennis talent blow away spectators around the world, the latest ATP and WTA rankings released on Monday proved favorable for Borna Ćorić and Petra Martić.

A look at the ATP ranking first, as reported by Gol.hr on March 19, 2018.

Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić still holds his impressive third place in the ATP ranking, behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Even more impressive is Borna Ćorić who progressed from 49th to 36th place after advancing to the semifinal of Indian Wells where he lost to the world’s best, Roger Federer.

While the top five remained unchanged, Argentinian player Juan Martin Del Potro, the winner of Indian Wells, increased to 6th place, while a new name among the top ten is French player Lucas Pouille, who reached this placement for the first time in his career.

Of the Croatian tennis players among the top 100 is Ivo Karlović who remained in 79th place, and Nino Serdarušić, who achieved a 25 place leap after winning the ITF Futures in Rovinj, is now the fifth Croatian tennis player in the ATP ranking in 287th place. Apart from Čilić, Ćorić and Karlović, there is also Davis Cup representative Viktor Galović who stands in 187th place.

Mate Pavić, in doubles, is ranked 5th, while Ivan Dodig is ranked eighth. The Pavić-Marach pair, with 3250 points, have a convincing lead in the “Race to London", which is 1585 more than the second-placed pair, American Twins Bob and Mike Bryan.

In the WTA ranking, Croatia’s Petra Martić reached her career-best, coming in 40th thanks to her breakthrough performance to the quarterfinal round of the Indian Wells tournament, reports Gol.hr on March 19, 2018.

In the top 100, Donna Vekić fell three places and is now 55th best in the world while the injured Mirjana Lučić-Baroni and Ana Konjuh remained in 79th and 84th place.

The most significant jump among the top 50 best female tennis players was made by the fantastic winner of Indian Wells, 20-year-old Naomi Osaka from Japan, who progressed from 44th to 22nd place. Her peer, Russian Daria Kasatkina, who Osaka defeated in the final, also reached a career high and is just one step away from entering the top 10.

In the top then there was no change, and Romania's Simona Halep still leads the table, with Caroline Wozniacki and Garbine Muguruza in second and third. In fourth is Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, and the only change in the top ten is the exchange of Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in fifth and Czech player Karolina Pliškova who was pushed to sixth.
