Germany's Bild: Croatia is Best Sporting Country in the World

By 25 June 2018

German tabloid newspaper Bild has praised Croatia’s athletes in handball, tennis, and water polo.

On Friday, June 22, 2018, German newspaper Bild, the 8th most circulated newspaper worldwide with over 2.5 million readers daily, named Croatia the best sporting country in the world!

Bild writes that with a population of just 4.2 million, Croatia has only slightly more inhabitants than Berlin (3.5 million) - but when it comes to sports, they are anything but small. In relation to size, Croatia can be considered the best sporting nation in the world.

Bild mentions that Croatia’s handball team (European Championship Bronze 2016) and water polo team (World Champion 2017) are among the favorites in every tournament.

Furthermore, former tennis star Goran Ivanišević (46) was the winner of Wimbledon in 2001 - and in 2002 and 2006, Janica Kostelić (36) won a total of four Olympic gold and two silver medals, to become one of the most successful skiers in history!

Basketball legend and Hall of Famer Dino Rađa (51 / 1992 Summer Olympics Silver) said to Bild: “It certainly has something to do with our genes. Many people here are taller than average. There is also a good school system. We recognize talents early, and promote them.”

The Croatia national football team overcoming Argentina 3:0 last week, and Ćorić and Čilić defeating Federer and Djoković yesterday for ATP titles might just confirm Bild’s point…
