Croats in NBA: Zubac and Žižić Lead Teams to Victories

By 28 January 2019

It was another excellent evening in the NBA for Croatia’s young basketball stars Ivica Zubac and Ante Žižić.

Ivica Zubac played another brilliant match for his Los Angeles Lakers, and along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Brandon Ingram, he led the Lakers in a win against the Phoenix Suns. Zubac spent 36 minutes on the court, and in that period, he scored 24 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, reports Gol.hr on January 28, 2019.

Zubac was the key man in the Lakers rhythm, and the question is whether the current coach Luke Walton will return the experienced veterans Jawale McGee and Tyson Chandler to their standard playing time after such star performances of the Croatian basketball player. That is if he continues coaching the Lakers.

In the ranks of Phoenix, who lost 116:102, Dragan Bender played for only 13 minutes, and in that time he scored five points, four rebounds, blocks, and two steals.

Another young Croatian center, Ante Žižić, also played an excellent match in the Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, and celebrated in Chicago against the Bulls 104:101. Žižić spent 36 minutes on the court, and in that period, he scored eight points, 14 rebounds (a career high), three assists, one steal, and one block. This was only the Cavs’ 10th win this season.

Croatian basketball player Bojan Bogdanović was the best scorer for Indiana in their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies (103:106). In 36 minutes on the court, Bogdanović scored 21 points (shots in play 6-14) and added five rebounds and one assist.

In the Minnesota Timberwolves loss to Utah Jazz, Dario Šarić played 30 minutes on the court and secured only three points. He did, however, achieve 11 rebounds.

Mario Hezonja totaled 12 points during Sunday's 106:97 loss to the Heat. He also achieved five rebounds, three steals, and one assist in 30 minutes on the court.
