September 2, 2020 - An agreement on continuing cooperation between the Croatian Football Federation and Croatia Airlines was signed today at the Croatian Football Federation's headquarters, by which the Croatian national airline remains the official airline of the World Cup finalists and HNS.

The contract was signed by Davor Suker, President of HNS, and Jasmin Bajic, President of the Croatia Airlines' Management Board, announced HNS.

After the Croatia national team returned to Croatia on a special Croatia Airlines flight with silver medals won at the World Cup in Russia, in September 2018, a cooperation agreement was signed between HNS and Croatia Airlines. Given that the cooperation took place mutually, both organizations' leaders decided to continue the partnership for the next two years.

"I am happy to continue cooperation with Croatia Airlines because I consider it natural that the Croatia national team flies with the Croatian national airline. We are in demanding public health circumstances, and that is why I am glad to continue our cooperation with Croatia Airlines because I am sure that the health of passengers comes first and that as our partners, they will do everything to ensure that the team has the best and safest possible conditions for travel. I sincerely hope for a large number of joint, safe, and winning flights," said the president of HNS Davor Suker.

"The continuation of the partnership with HNS is further proof of the strong connection between the Croatian national airline and the Croatia national football team, which has lasted for more than two decades. I believe that further cooperation between two recognizable Croatian brands, aviation, and football, will contribute to the successful promotion of our country around the world," said Jasmin Bajic, President of the Management Board of Croatia Airlines.

The tradition of transporting the Croatia national football team from major competitions began 22 years ago, in July 1998, when the football team returned home on a Croatia Airlines plane with a bronze medal won at the World Cup in France. Twenty years later, in July 2018, a specially branded Airbus 319 aircraft with the inscription 'Bravo Vatreni!' returned the silver-medalists from Moscow to Zagreb on a solemn flight, over the crowded Ban Josip Jelacic Square.

September 1, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia with updates for Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik as Croatia Airlines cancels numerous flights in September. 

Croatian Aviation reports that Croatia Airlines has announced its flight schedule for September this year. The company will continue to fly to the same number of destinations as in August, but there are cancellations of certain departures on almost all routes.

Airline companies are currently revising their flight schedule 2 to 3 weeks in advance, so we have taken the period from September 1 to 21 into review.

August 30, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates for Zagreb. A look at how Croatia Airlines reduces Zagreb services in September. 

Croatian Aviation reports that Croatia Airlines will continue to operate to Copenhagen, London, and Dublin in September, but the weekly traffic will be lower than in August.

Denmark and the United Kingdom have reintroduced strict measures for all travelers coming from Croatia. Such decisions result in the cancellation of direct flights. An example is certainly British Airways, which canceled three of its four flights to Croatia.

In August, it was possible to travel directly between London and Zagreb with two airlines - British Airways and Croatia Airlines. Both companies operated to Heathrow Airport. As we mentioned earlier, British Airways will cut off traffic on the route to Zagreb from September 6, and according to the latest information, Croatia Airlines will reduce the number of weekly departures on this route.

The Croatian national airline has so far operated three times a week between London and Zagreb, and from September 7, there will be only one flight a week on this route - every Monday. This is a big drop in the number of seats offered, with 10 direct flights a week in August to 1 flight a week in September!

Croatia Airlines has two other flights a week on sale (Wednesdays and Fridays) from September 16, but they should be taken into account with caution, given that their cancellation is still possible (it will depend solely on booking).

Zagreb - Dublin

Two days ago, we announced the cancellation of the Dublin - Split line by Aer Lingus, though direct flights from Dublin to the coast will continue to operate by Irish Ryanair. Changes are also taking place on the Zagreb-Dublin line.

In September, Croatia Airlines plans to operate on this route three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays), but from September 10 to 24, flights were canceled on Thursdays. In the last week of September, three flights a week have been announced again, but their traffic will depend exclusively on the booking status for each individual flight, so further cancellations are also possible.

Zagreb - Copenhagen

Croatia Airlines launched the Zagreb - Copenhagen route on June 1, and it was, at that time, only the third international destination of the national airline after a complete "lockdown". Until now, the company has operated on this line on a daily basis.

Despite the introduced measures, Croatia Airlines will continue to operate on this route, but certain flights have also been canceled. From September 7 to 13, there will be six flights a week on the route (flight canceled on Saturday, September 12), while from September 14 to 20, two flights will be canceled (Wednesday, September 16 and Friday, September 18). Further cancellations are also possible.

August 11, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates for Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Pula, Rijeka, Osijek and Brac.

Croatian Aviation reports that although Air France announced the introduction of a second daily flight on the Paris-Zagreb route, it did not materialize.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Air France announced the introduction of a second daily flight to Zagreb, and the company planned to offer as many as 14 direct flights a week between Paris and Zagreb, but due to reduced demand, the plans have been canceled. The second daily flight was to land from Paris to Zagreb in the late evening, overnight in Zagreb, and depart on the return flight to Paris early the next morning.

However, in July, the company announced traffic on the Paris-Zagreb route 11 times a week, where two daily flights were planned every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, but this also did not materialize. Air France thus operates seven times a week between the two cities, with one flight a day.

Air France still operates to Split and Dubrovnik, where flights take place as planned; to Split six times a week (every day except Saturday), and to Dubrovnik four times a week (Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).

Croatia Airlines operates to Paris from Split once a week, from Dubrovnik three times a week, and from Zagreb every day.

Croatian Aviation reports that France isn't the only country that is well connected with Croatia. Last weekend (August 8 and 9), just like every peak season weekend, Croatian airports were well connected with Frankfurt. 

Frankfurt Airport received and dispatched over 70 million passengers (70,556,072) in 2019, ranking fourth among the busiest airports in Europe (ahead of only Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and London Heathrow).

Last weekend, Split Airport had the largest number of seats offered on the lines to and from Frankfurt. On Saturday, German Lufthansa used an A321 aircraft with a capacity of 215 passengers (430 seats in both directions), while Croatia Airlines operated an A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 passengers (288 seats in both directions). On Sunday, Lufthansa again used an A321 aircraft with a capacity of 200 passengers, while Croatia Airlines offered the same capacity on the route as on Saturday. However, on Sunday, German Condor flew to Split on a B757 aircraft with a capacity of as many as 275 passengers, so only this airline offered 550 seats in both directions, for a total of 1956 seats available!

The second airport in terms of the number of seats offered on the route to Frankfurt is Zagreb Airport. As Lufthansa has not resumed traffic at Zagreb Airport, only Croatia Airlines operates on this route. Last Saturday and Sunday saw three flights a day. Croatia Airlines used A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 passengers on all flights, while one flight was performed every day with a 9A-CTN aircraft with a slightly larger capacity, 150 passengers. In total - 1752 seats on sale on direct flights between these two airports.

The third airport in Croatia in terms of connections with Frankfurt was Dubrovnik Airport. Lufthansa landed in Dubrovnik on Saturday on an A321 aircraft with a capacity of 200 passengers, while Croatia Airlines flew to Frankfurt on an A319 aircraft. On Sunday, Croatia Airlines offered the same capacity as the previous day, while Lufthansa used a smaller A320neo on the route, which has a capacity of 180 passengers. There were 1336 seats available on direct flights between Dubrovnik and Frankfurt.

This year, Croatia Airlines does not offer direct flights from Zadar to Frankfurt, but Lufthansa has resumed traffic to Zadar Airport, and the line is available on both Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturday, the A319 aircraft with a capacity of 138 passengers operated on the route, while on Sunday, the A320neo with a capacity of 180 passengers operated. In total, in both directions, 636 seats were available.

As is the case at Zadar Airport, this year, Croatia Airlines does not operate direct flights from Pula to Frankfurt. Lufthansa restored traffic, but only on Saturdays, so there was no direct flight between Pula and Frankfurt on Sunday. The Embraer E190, with a capacity of 120 passengers, landed in Pula on Saturday, so a total of 240 seats were available on this line.

Other airports in Croatia - Osijek, Brac and Rijeka, do not have direct flights to Frankfurt in this year's summer flight schedule. It should be mentioned that Rijeka is connected to Frankfurt Hahn Airport, where Ryanair operates, and the line is available on Saturdays.

In conclusion, a total of 5,920 seats on as many as 36 flights were available between the five Croatian airports and Frankfurt last weekend! Given that Frankfurt is a well-known European and world hub, the number of seats offered is no surprise, especially when the number of direct flights to Croatian airports has been reduced this year, so many passengers are forced to change at one of the European airports to arrive in Croatia.

Croatia Airlines was struggling with its repeated attempts to find a strategic partner and was publishing losses long before the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe, and the appearance of the new virus was the absolute last thing that the Croatian national airline needed...

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 3rd of August, 2020, in addition to tourism and the role in which aircraft play in that, the coronavirus pandemic has hit air traffic as a sector on its own the hardest, with operations falling by more than 90 percent in recent months.

Even without the global coronavirus pandemic, airlines across the world have been undergoing a significant transformation over recent years, primarily due to the increasingly aggressive and increasing penetration of low-budget players, and now due to large losses, there is no national operator that isn't being held up to some degree or another by its home country. Croatia Airlnes (CA) is no exception. The company, which was touched on previously, has been undergoing a kind of business transformation and has been engaged in the search for a strategic partner for many years now.

The coronavirus pandemic stopped all of that indefinitely, and the company reported 173.2 million in losses in the first half of the year on Friday, up significantly from 89.4 million in losses in the same period last year. Croatia Airlines pointed out that they transported 330,935 passengers in the first half of the year, which is a concerning 66 percent less than they did during the first half of last year. The number of passengers in domestic regular traffic decreased by 63 percent, to 83,618, and when it comes to international flights, the decrease stood at 66 percent, down to 244,382 passengers.

Croatia Airlines aircraft has so far performed 5,661 flights during 2020, which is 57 percent less than 2019. The structure of the company's routes was adjusted to the needs of the air traffic and the Q400 fleet was used more, whose capacity is smaller than that of the larger Airbus. Croatia Airlines is currently flying from Zagreb to fourteen European destinations, with London's Heathrow remaining strong.

There are announcements for August that a total of 37 destinations could be opened, which will hopefully provide a much needed boost for Croatia Airlines.

The lines were announced, but due to the corona crisis, likely, the company will not launch them this summer season. Also, international lines from Pula and Zadar have also been canceled for this summer season, while Rijeka has one line to Munich.

ZAGREB, July 24, 2020 - Transport Minister Oleg Butkovic said on Friday that the government would not give up from flag carriers, Croatia Airlines and Jadrolinija.

"We will not give up from our national airline company. We are searching for the best solutions to stabilise and retain Croatia Airlines. We are sharing the same destiny as other air companies in Europe and in the world. This is an occasion for us to solve together this problem at the European Union level, Butkovic said while coming to the first meeting of the inner cabinet after the 5th government was sworn in on late Thursday night.

We have Croatia Airlines and Jadrolinija (shipping company), they are hit by (the corona crisis), we have solutions and will make it, he added.

July 24, 2020 - National airline Croatia Airlines and leading Croatian passenger shipping company Jadrolinija have signed an agreement on business cooperation, on the basis of which they will try to improve Croatia's tourist offer further.

HRTurizam reports that this cooperation aims to benefit from the advantages that both companies undoubtedly have as important participants in the Croatian transport scene, and thus offer Croatian citizens and tourists a unified service in the future, which will make Croatia even more accessible and its destinations more accessible.

Thus, Croatia Airlines and Jadrolinija will jointly develop a platform through which passengers will be offered an intermodal transport service in the future, i.e., a combination of air and sea transport for travel from European airports to Croatian island destinations.

"The challenging environment in which we operate and everything that has additionally affected the entire Croatian and global economy in recent months poses new challenges to all of us that need to be readily and strategically addressed in order to create competitive advantages in the future," said Croatia Airlines CEO Jasmin Bajic and added:

“That is why we have decided to unite our forces with Jadrolinija, the leading passenger shipping company in the Republic of Croatia, whose ships complement our air fleet perfectly. Croatia Airlines connects Croatia with the world by air, Jadrolinija by sea, and together we can create additional benefits for passengers during their travels. We believe that our cooperation will achieve the expected goals and thus create even more satisfied passengers and tourists, making the Republic of Croatia even more attractive and accessible," said the President of the Croatia Airlines Management Board.

Jadrolinija is particularly pleased to join the business cooperation with Croatia Airlines in order to bring Croatian islands closer to passengers arriving by plane, said Jadrolinija's CEO David Sopta, adding that the number of passengers transported, which in  2019 was a record 12.5 million passengers, certainly represents an excellent potential for both companies in terms of offering new travel.

"The cooperation, which is currently based on mutual advertising, will soon enable passengers to purchase a joint ticket, i.e., the passenger will be able to buy one ticket with which they will be able to use the services of both Croatia Airlines and Jadrolinija. We believe that the partnership between Jadrolinija and Croatia Airlines, the Croatian Navy and Air Force, will very soon contribute to mutual successful business results," Sopta points out.

Croatia Airlines has been in the media for all the wrong reasons over the past year or so. Struggling with financial issues and various problems in finding a strategic partner, the domestic carrier continuously posted losses and was a cause for concern for the state. Finally, something a little different for the air company as it flies to China for the very first time.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 17th of July, 2020, although it is not a regular line service, it remains worth noting that the Croatian national airline, Croatia Airlines, took off from Zagreb Airport, heading for the Chinese Tianjin Binhai Airport. This is the first flight in the history of Croatia Airlines to land in China.

As Avioradar.hr learned, the Airbus A320 aircraft took off on July the 17th, 2020, 1 hour and 9 minutes after midnight from Zagreb Airport, carrying with it 122 passengers firstly to Nursultan Nazarbayev Airport in Kazakhstan, where it had a technical stop considering that the distance between Zagreb and Tianjin is too great for this type of aircraft to complete without stopping.

The Croatia Airlines plane landed in Kazakhstan after flying for five hours, from where it continued its journey to China after an hour and 10 minutes spent on the ground (for a crew change and for refueling). The 9A-CTK landed in China at 12 noon local time.

The Croatia Airlines plane's departure from China is scheduled for Saturday, July the 18th, with its descent and landing back in Zagreb scheduled for 14:30 local time.

117 student passengers were transported on the flight to China, while 74 diplomatic passengers will be on the flight's return to Croatia. A total of 10 crew members will perform this honorary flight, and will switch when the aircraft lands once again in Kazakhstan.

July 4, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Brac. 

Croatian Aviation reports that Croatia Airlines has announced a modified flight schedule for July, in which, from the middle of this month, it will introduce two more routes from Zagreb, to Athens and Skopje. 

The long-running seasonal line between Zagreb and Athens will be in operation again from July 14 with three flights per week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. As before, the line will operate with a stop in Dubrovnik (ZAG-DBV-ATH), and with a DashQ400 aircraft with a capacity of 76 seats.

The Zagreb - Skopje line is being reintroduced. The line will be in service from July 13, with two flights per week, every Monday and Friday, and from July 22, two more departures will be added, every Wednesday and Sunday. A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 seats have been announced for all four flights.

Croatia Airlines will again fly on the seasonal route between Split and Lyon. The line will be in operation once a week, every Saturday, from July 11, and it will be operated by DashQ400 aircraft.

From the end of July, the company plans to launch the Dubrovnik - Paris line. The first flight is on sale from July 30, and direct flights on this route are expected 3 times a week, on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Dubrovnik - Rome route is also being introduced, from July 18, three times a week, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays with DashQ400 aircraft.

Croatia Airlines will again operate on the Dubrovnik - Munich route. The introduction of this line is expected from July 24, three times a week, on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, by A319 aircraft.

From August 1, Croatia Airlines will operate on charter routes from Brac to destinations in Austria with the A319 aircraft.

From August 1, the A319 aircraft will come from Split to Brac (without passengers), and will then operate from Brac on charter lines to Linz and Graz. The traffic with this type of aircraft will be performed every Saturday from the mentioned date until the beginning of October.

Croatia Airlines operates on the regular seasonal route Zagreb - Brac - Zagreb every Tuesday and Saturday, aircraft type DashQ400, and from August 29 on the regular route from Zagreb announced a larger type of aircraft, A319, which will then perform the mentioned charter routes from Austria to Austria, every Saturday until October 3.

A smaller aircraft, the DashQ400, will continue to operate flights from Zagreb on Tuesdays.

This will be the first arrival of an A319 aircraft at Brac Airport.

Furthermore, just two days after it was announced that Lufthansa would not launch a seasonal route between Munich and Rijeka, the Croatian national airline confirmed to Croatian Aviation that the sale of tickets on the same route as Croatia Airlines had been suspended. 

Croatia Airlines suspended sales on the only route from Rijeka, the one to Munich, on which it operated 3 times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) on a 76-passenger DashQ400 aircraft until the start of the pandemic.

There will certainly be no flights on this route until the end of July, and since Croatia Airlines has not yet made a final decision on whether to launch a line between Munich and Rijeka, ticket sales have been suspended for after July.

Rijeka is currently left without a direct route to Munich by both companies (Lufthansa and Croatia Airlines) and has virtually no connection to a major European air hub, greatly reducing the possibility of traveling from Rijeka to European and world destinations.

In previous years, Croatia Airlines operated once a week on the Rijeka - London Heathrow route, but this route was canceled earlier.
