An important gathering of the Croatian diaspora and Croatian interests in Washington last week, which was attended by President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic. TCN's Steve Rukavina was also there and sent this report on April 26, 2016. 

Continuing our series on Croatian diaspora returnee experiences, both positive and negative, TCN caught up with Kristina Tomasovic on April 23, 2016, a year lady who swapped the bright lights of Toronto for the Dalmatian coastal bliss of Omis.

Croatia has a declining population, but with a population of 4.2 million and a global diaspora of an estimated 3 million, persuading those living abroad to return to the homeland could solve the problem. TCN continues its series on March 26, 2016 looking at those who returned to Croatia, with mixed results. Returnees like Igor Krstelj, who arrived to his native Zagreb from the US via Brazil, before resettling in his current home, New Jersey. 

In Ashley Colburn's column, "Successful Croats in America" she highlights Dino Bilankov, a Zagreb-born tennis star who took his talents to the University of Minnesota where he not only succeeded in the sport, but is now enrolled at Harvard Business School.  

A new series on TCN as we look at the relationship of Croatia with its diaspora, of those wanting to return, those who tried and left, and those who came to Croatia and successfully made it their home. We begin on February 28, 2016, with a success story, and a young lady called Sasha Ergic, who left a successful career in Switzerland to open her own business. Five months later, she is loving life and lighting up Croatia at the same time. 

Croatia has an estimated diaspora of 3 million worldwide, with well over a million in North America alone. Various communities are keeping the cultural links with the homeland very much alive, such as the Croatian School of Boston, which launched a North America-wide competition for children of the diaspora on February 22, 2016.
