ZAGREB, May 12, 2018 - About a thousand nurses marched through the centre of Zagreb on Saturday on the occasion of International Nurses Day, protesting against low wages and inadequate work conditions.

ZAGREB, March 20, 2018 - The Union of Autonomous Trade Unions (SSSH) on Tuesday condemned announcements, released through the media, that raising the retirement age to 67, which was to have been introduced as of 2038, will be introduced as of 2033, which means that everyone currently under the age of 52 will be required to work until they are 67.

ZAGREB, March 17, 2018 - Workers of Croatian Telekom (HT) staged a rally outside an HT office in downtown Zagreb on Saturday, protesting against wage cuts and lay-offs and seeking a meeting with the management.

There can never be too many holidays.

Trade unions are worried because the government, for the first time in history, wants to increase salaries of state employees, but not of public sector employees as well.

In addition to higher salaries, public servants will get Christmas bonuses as well.

Trade unions want an increase to 3,800 kuna, while employers accept an increase of up to 5 percent.

Government could be sued for more than a billion kuna for unpaid salary increases.

Unions say that those with lowest incomes will get very little or nothing.

If there is no agreement between trade unions and government by January, they will meet in court.
