Veterans Associations Will Keep Banned Ustasha Slogan

ZAGREB, March 8, 2018 - A few Zagreb- and Split-based associations of 1991-1995 Homeland War veterans and victims on Thursday criticised the guidelines made by the Croatian council for dealing with the consequences of the rule of undemocratic regimes that banned the Ustasha salute "For the homeland ready", except in commemorative purposes, whereas the Communist Red Star, which those veterans perceive as a symbol of the Serbian forces that launched a military aggression against Croatia in the early 1990s, is tolerated.

Key Italian Minority MP Unsure about Dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister

ZAGREB, March 5, 2018 - The Croatian Parliament's Deputy Speaker Furio Radin, who represent ethnic Italians and is one of key supporters of the ruling coalition, has said that he does not know if Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Martina Dalić "has any skeletons in the closet" and that he would vote during a no-confidence motion instigated by the opposition against Dalić only in accordance with the facts he is presented with.

Historical Commission’s Chairman Satisfied with Issued Recommendations

ZAGREB, March 4, 2018 - The president of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) Zvonko Kusić, who chaired the council for dealing with the consequences of the rule of undemocratic regimes that recently adopted guidelines for how to treat insignia of totalitarian systems in the 20th century, has said that the document the council has produced "is not ideal but is realistic".

ZAGREB, March 1 , 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Thursday that the recommendations adopted by the council for dealing with the consequences of undemocratic regimes on how to treat insignia of totalitarian regimes "is a valuable, well-balanced and useful document", which could serve as the starting point for the continuation of dialogue of that topic.

ZAGREB, March 1, 2018 - Social Democratic Party (SDP) president Davor Bernardić said on Wednesday the council for dealing with the past had adopted a shameful conclusion on the Ustasha salute "For the Homeland Ready" by "making it acceptable in exceptional situations."

Government to Allow Limited Use of Ustasha Slogan?

ZAGREB, February 28, 2018 - Croatia punishes all forms of glorification of fascist regimes but allows the use of the "For the Homeland Ready" salute strictly to commemorate soldiers killed in the 1991-95 Homeland War, according to one of the main recommendations and guidelines sent to the government on Wednesday by the Council for dealing with the consequences of undemocratic regimes.
