HRT Programming Council Worried about Situation at Public Broadcaster

ZAGREB, October 2, 2018 - The programming council of the Croatian national broadcaster on Monday convened an emergency session to discuss the situation on Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) following the latest developments, including the dismissal of journalist Hrvoje Zovko, and concluded by a majority vote that the situation on HRT was concerning due to disrespect of journalistic standards and ethical norms as well as the state of media freedoms.

HND Demands End to Intimidation of Journalists

ZAGREB, October 1, 2018 - After HND leader Hrvoje Zovko's dismissal from the Croatian national broadcaster (HTR) at short notice, the HND association of journalists in Croatia on Monday sent an appeal to several national and international institutions asking them to show support to Zovko and to help stop "the intimidation, censorship and arbitrariness which the HRT Board carries out in this public company, directly destroying professional journalism."

ZAGREB, August 29, 2018 - The Constitutional Court has rejected several complaints concerning the Law on the Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) and provisions regulating radio and television licence fee, noting that this isn't a parafiscal tax but rather a "specific monetary obligation," to access "those radiodiffusion services that are conducted as a public interest."

Croatian TV Series "The Paper" Sold to Netflix

ZAGREB, April 3, 2018 - The management of Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) on Tuesday confirmed that the drama series The Paper (originally: Novine), produced by the Drugi Plan production company, has been sold to the American global provider of streaming films and television series Netflix, which will make it available to a market of almost half a billion viewers in close to 190 countries.

Croatian Radio Television Urged to Cut Costs

ZAGREB, March 15, 2018 - The Croatian government on Thursday recommended that the parliament adopt a report on the operation of the Croatian Radio Television (HRT) public broadcaster in 2016 but also oblige the public media service to make a plan to cut its loan debt, reduce operating costs and the cost of external contractors, increase the efficiency of its permanent staff and carry out restructuring due to problems identified in its business operations.
