Are you ready for this year's FestiWine in the Pearl of the Adriatic?
If there’s one thing Klis is renowned for more than anything else it is most definitely the restaurants. However, most surprisingly, these restaurants are famous for just one thing on their menu and that is the mouth-watering lamb. Whole lambs are roasted slowly on a spit for hours at a time throughout the day meaning you never have to order in advance or wait too long to get your slice or kilo of the succulent, salty meat. Konobas (traditional Dalmatian wine cellars) also exist in Klis and along with pršut and cheese appetizers can also prepare a variety of peka dishes accompanied by fresh vegetable salads and perfectly roasted potatoes. As the name suggests, you are supplied with endless glasses of homemade wine and shots of rakija to help wash all the hearty goodness down. Considering most people in Klis grow their own vegetables and make their own pršut, cheese, bread, wine and rakija you can indulge guilt-free knowing that you’re being served the same high quality products used to feed their own families. At the konoba all that non-stop eating and drinking makes people so happy it’s not unusual for them to bust out in song. Traditional klapa or a cappella singing is a staple of the Dalmatian konoba party and prepare to be serenaded late into the night often with the help of an accordion and/ or guitar. No Klis konoba dinner party is complete without at least a little klapa and they usually stick to their favorites which means it won’t take long for you to learn a few lines and join in! Aside from the konoba, locals and visitors can also congregate at several cafe’s and bars around Klis. Oprah Bar right off the main road has an incredible view of Split and the Adriatic and also sits next to the Klis Free Riders motorcycle club. Local riders often gather there before or after their trip and fellow bikers from all over Europe make pit stops here to rest their weary bones along their journey through Croatia. If you’re looking for nightclubs you won’t find them in Klis, but Kameleon club is just a five minute drive away in nearby Solin or keep driving 10 minutes further to enjoy the array of nightlife in Split.
